The Hellcats Hockey Club has concluded negotiations for the acquisition of the Thirsty Bears, securing the club’s entry into the Oakland Ice Center’s Over 40 A division.
The Thirsty Bears, a icon of the Over 40 A division and multiple championship winner, had fallen on hard times during the the 2015 Summer Season. With a doubt hanging over the Team for the Winter Season, the League Office reached out to The Hellcats Hockey Club who were exploring an entry into the Over 40 A, or Over 40 B, divisions.
After two weeks to conduct a feasibility analysis the Club entered into an agreement to acquire the Thirsty Bears on September 8th, 2015.
Club President Olli Bemidji stated at press conference, “The Club waited too long to enter the Over 40 division, I wish we would have done this when I was still playing.”
The Club anticipates a difficult season as the Thirsty Beas have lost much of its team in during the negotiations and past experience ha indicated that getting a new team up and going successfully in a highly competitive division can take a while.
The Thirsty Bears finished the 2015 Summer season in fifth place with a 3-12-3 record for 7 points. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by Taleo 3 to 2.
